How PHB Builds.
Every PHB home begins the same way — with a conversation. Not a sales pitch, not a contract, not a floor plan catalog. A real conversation about how you live, what you value, and what kind of home would serve your family well for decades.
From that conversation, everything else follows. Whether you own land, are exploring a community, or want PHB to guide the entire process from concept to completion — our role is the same. We bring clarity, craftsmanship, and the kind of steady communication that makes a complex undertaking feel manageable.
PHB is a builder-led firm. Ray Mitchell — second-generation builder with over eighteen years of experience across Acadiana — is personally involved in every project we take on. That is not a marketing claim. It is how we operate, and it is what our clients consistently point to as the defining difference of building with PHB.
Transparency Is Not Optional Here
PHB’s pricing model is straightforward and honest — and it differs depending on the path you choose.
For Build On Your Lot projects, PHB operates on a cost-plus, open-book model. You see the actual cost of every material, every subcontractor, and every line item — plus our clearly stated builder fee. Nothing is hidden, nothing is inflated, and no profit is buried inside your costs. This model gives BOYL clients complete visibility into where every dollar goes from groundbreaking to final walkthrough.
For new construction homes within PHB communities and design-build projects on PHB land, we offer a turnkey, fixed-price contract. The price is set, the scope is defined, and you know exactly what you are getting before construction begins. This approach gives buyers in our communities a clear, predictable path to a finished PHB home without the complexity of managing an open-book build.
Both models reflect the same PHB commitment — honesty, clarity, and a price that reflects the true value of what we build.
Three Ways to Build With PHB
PHB serves clients across all three major custom home building paths — and our approach to each is equally thorough. The path that is right for you depends on your land situation, your timeline, and how much creative control you want over the process. All three lead to the same destination — a PHB home built to last.
Build On Your Lot
You own land — or you’re ready to find it. PHB builds a fully custom home to your exact specifications, on your lot, with complete transparency on every cost from groundbreaking to final walkthrough. This is our most personal build path and the one that gives you the highest degree of creative control.
Buyers who own land or want help finding it, and who want a fully custom home built to their exact vision with an open-book builder they can trust.
New Construction
PHB builds new construction homes within Audubon Parc — a curated Lafayette community where thoughtful design, established character, and long-term livability define every street. These homes offer a more defined starting point while still delivering the quality and craftsmanship PHB is known for across Acadiana.
Buyers who want a PHB-quality home within an established community, often with a more streamlined selection process and defined neighborhood character.
Design–Build
PHB guides the entire process — from the first sketch through the final finish — under one unified team. Design and construction are managed together, which means fewer handoffs, tighter communication, and a more seamless experience from concept to completion.
Buyers who want a single point of accountability across both design and construction, with PHB managing the full scope of the project from vision to delivery.
You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone
One of the most common concerns buyers bring to PHB is this — they know what they want their home to feel like, but they are not sure how to translate that into decisions. Floor plans, elevations, material selections, finish specifications — the volume of choices in a custom home build can be overwhelming without the right guidance.
PHB bridges that gap. Depending on your project, we work with our trusted network of architects and interior designers across Acadiana, or we bring in our own design resources to support your selections process. Either way, you are never left to navigate the design side of your build without experienced guidance.
Our role is not to impose a style — it is to help you clarify yours, make confident decisions, and avoid the costly mistakes that come from choosing in a vacuum. The result is a home that feels unmistakably like you — because every decision was made with your lifestyle and priorities at the center.
The Principles Behind Every PHB Build
Open-Book Transparency
Every cost is visible. Every invoice is accessible. Every decision is made with full information. PHB’s cost-plus model is not just a contract structure — it is a commitment to treating your investment with the respect it deserves.
Builder-Direct Accountability
Ray Mitchell is personally present throughout every PHB project. You are not passed off to a project coordinator after signing. The builder you meet in your first conversation is the builder who delivers your home.
Timeless Craftsmanship
PHB homes are built to age gracefully. We guide our clients toward architectural decisions and material selections that will feel as relevant in twenty years as they do today — because a truly well-built home is never a product of its moment.
Proactive Communication
You will never wonder what is happening with your home. PHB provides regular updates, clear milestone communication, and direct access to your builder throughout the build. Clarity is part of what we build.
It Starts With a Conversation
Tell us about your land, your vision, or simply where you are in the process. We will help you figure out the right next step — without pressure and without obligation.
