About Prestigious Home Builders

Builders, Not Just Builders.

Prestigious Home Builders is a luxury custom home builder serving Lafayette and the broader Acadiana region. We exist to build homes that mean something — to the people living in them, to the communities they sit in, and to the legacy they leave behind.

Meet The Builder

Ray Mitchell

Owner & Builder — Second Generation

Ray Mitchell, Owner and Builder of Prestigious Home Builders in Lafayette Louisiana

Ray Mitchell grew up in West Virginia, where his earliest understanding of work was shaped inside his family’s retail business. From a young age, he learned what it meant to serve customers personally, to stand behind the work that carried his family’s name, and to treat every transaction as a relationship rather than a sale. Those values would later become the foundation of how he builds homes.

At twenty-three, Ray made the decision that would define the next chapter of his life — moving to Lafayette and partnering with his father to start a construction company from the ground up. What began as a father-and-son venture became a true craft. Over the years that followed, Ray learned every dimension of homebuilding — from foundation through finish — and discovered that construction was more than a business. It was a calling.

More than eighteen years later, Ray leads Prestigious Home Builders as both owner and active builder. Every PHB project bears his direct involvement — from the first conversation with a potential client through the final walkthrough with a new homeowner. That hands-on approach is rare in the custom home industry, and it’s the standard PHB clients consistently point to as the defining difference of building with Ray.

The PHB Difference

Why We Build The Way We Build

There are builders who construct houses, and there are builders who understand the weight of what they’re being trusted with. Most homeowners will only ever build one custom home in their lifetime. It is the largest financial decision they will make, the most personal investment they will ever steward, and the place that will hold the next chapter of their family’s story.

Ray approaches every PHB build with that reality at the center of every decision. The cost-plus, open-book model on Build On Your Lot projects isn’t a marketing feature — it’s a commitment to treating your money the way we would treat our own. The hands-on builder relationship isn’t a bonus — it’s the only way to deliver the standard of craftsmanship our clients expect. The careful attention to selections and materials isn’t optional — it’s how a home becomes timeless rather than trendy.

PHB doesn’t compete on volume. We compete on craft, communication, and the long-term trust of the people we build for. We would rather build fewer homes done right than more homes done quickly.

What We Stand For

The Principles Behind Every Build

Craftsmanship & Integrity

The way work is done when no one is watching is the way work is done at PHB. Every framing detail, every finish, every transition is built to a standard that holds up under close inspection — because that’s how trust is built and kept.

Transparency & Honesty

Honest conversations from day one. Clear scope. Real numbers. Whether the project is custom-built on your land or a turnkey home in a PHB community, you’ll always know what you’re getting and what you’re paying — no hidden costs, no surprises, no fine print.

Built To Last Generations

A truly well-built home is never a product of its moment. PHB guides clients toward architectural and material decisions that will feel as relevant in twenty years as they do today — because we’re building something meant to outlast trends.

Rooted In Acadiana

A Builder Who Chose This Place

Ray was born in West Virginia, but Acadiana is the place he chose to build his life — and the place he chose to raise his family. That choice changes how he builds. The homes PHB constructs are not built by someone passing through. They’re built by someone who deliberately put down roots in this region, knows these neighborhoods, drives these streets every day, and understands what an Acadiana family needs from the place they come home to.

That local connection runs deeper than market knowledge. It shapes how PHB approaches design, materials, climate considerations, and the small details that make a home feel right for this region. From soil conditions to drainage to the way Acadiana light moves through a kitchen — these are things you only learn by living here, building here, and committing to this community for the long haul.

PHB serves all of Acadiana — Lafayette, Youngsville, Broussard, Carencro, Scott, Duson, Maurice, New Iberia, and surrounding communities. Wherever the project, Ray brings the same standard, the same craftsmanship, and the same deep respect for the homeowners trusting him with the most important investment of their lives.

A Personal Note

“I’m raising my family in Acadiana. The homes I build are for the families who chose this place too — and I’d never put my name on a home I wouldn’t be proud to live in myself.”

When You’re Ready

Begin The Conversation

Every PHB home begins with a conversation. No pressure, no pitch — just an honest discussion about your vision, your land, and whether we’re the right builder for your project.
